Ultra Megalopolis - Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon

A RUINED CITY IN ULTRA SPACE. It is unclear whether this is a different universe's Ultra Megalopolis or smaller colony. Regardless, it is a dark city with intermittent sections of flickering, artificial light... Large, black prism-like skyscrapers loom above flat black streets. Much ruin has fallen here, but you get the sense that you're not alone...

If she hadn't already visited the depths of the 'Ultra Sea' and seen first hand the distortion that comes through interdimensional travel that way, knowing that other realms were out there and that doing something as dangerous as stepping into the bowels of a giant dimension eating beast was something she was in fact capable of... Yuina would have had a far more difficult time accepting that she and a partner had just emerged into a desolate interdimensional city...[break]
Yuina was here though with all the best intentions, she was trying to get more involved in the 'league' as a whole, and as it happened her partner for this mission was a head of the ranger organization, a bit that Yuina had started to aspire towards after getting involved in things here and there. If anything, this was an opportunity for her to know more about how she could help and work towards becoming a ranger! Albeit, maybe this was a bit more of an irregular mission for someone so new to the concept...[break]
It was a little daunting really understanding just exactly where they were...[break][break]
"Uhm, have... Have you been on one of these missions before? I didn't really know that there were so many ground breaking things going on like this... It's kind of hard to wrap one's head around," Yuina asked, though her voice was quiet, she couldn't quite shake the feeling that there was just something entirely off about their surroundings and she just didn't want to disrupt anything... Though it appeared that something might have already disrupted things greatly around here given the amount of ruin...[break][break]
"Are there... Actually people here, in this place? Is that why we're here," she inquired, she'd heard briefly of what their mission was, and she wanted a better idea of what they were to do here... But it was really kind of hard to believe that there were still people here in this place... or people at all to begin with?

[break][break] He almost wished he'd asked Laurence Anderson or Raziel Beckett to accompany him. But no! This was part of being a Head Ranger, going on these excursions on his own and navigating what a lesser Ranger couldn't.

[break][break] Plus, he'd made a new friend here. Even though he hadn't known her very long.

[break][break] Ollie turned to look at the young girl as she barraged him questions. He held up two fingers.

[break][break] "Yeah! Well, sort of. I've been to the Ultra Deep Sea. Don't worry though," he assured her. "I think it's hard for most people to wrap their head around."

[break][break] "I guess... I don't really know. Looks kinda eerie, doesn't it?" The broad-shouldered man turned, peering around at the area they were currently investigating. Compared to the rest of the city that was relatively empty, there seemed to be sounds of life in the abandoned Megalopolan school building... whether that was a good sign or not, however, remained to be determined.

Yeah... It was a little hard for most people to wrap their head around, that she was standing in an abandoned city in an alternate dimension that was devoid of life and they were sent here to recon the area... She really was trying not to think about it too hard, but they weren't in space, so these people that lived here, this city, they weren't aliens... But were they human? What was this place even like before this happened? Was it just like any other city in any other place in the world just going about their business...[break]
"Yeah... Uh, I guess it is best not to try and think too hard on it, things just... Happen, big or small, and that's just the way it is," Yuina nodded, trying to take on her partner's reassurances, but goodness if it wasn't a lot to take in as a new ranger on her first interdimensional travel recon mission...[break][break]
"Eerie is one word... I know this place didn't always look like this... But it would be hard to believe that any 'person' actually lived here, that this was just a place, like a functioning regular place," Yuina returned, she couldn't help being nervous... It was one thing to be in a deep undersea toxin laiden cavern mining for crystals because it didn't really look like anything, like anywhere. This place was a little more than unsettling because they were coming up on what literally looked like a school building, that was such a normal thing to think about... And being in interdimensional weirdness was its own caveat, Yuina couldn't help but feel off and just... plain wrong being here, like she was getting sick, but not physically.[break][break]
The slap on her back was friendly enough in intention, it wasn't harmful in any way, but the suddenness of it, maybe the shock, the startling, the already being on edge or a combination thereof jarred Yuina for a moment as she gasped, and blinked, but in the moment that she did, and opened her eyes, she wasn't looking at the ruined wasteland of that interdimensional building, it was a faint, static, fuzzy image, like looking at the feeling that she had being in this place in a more physical form. She could barely make out a figure, standing in the near distance, a figure that... Looked like her? She couldn't make out any real discerning features, and there was hardly any scenery around this hazy image to make out, but she heard a voice, a name, someone calling out to Alexandria and the figure turned in answer... And then she blinked again, coughing a bit. It all happened in a split second, her partner was ready to go investigate the building they'd come up on, and while she was disoriented, she was ready to follow...[break][break]
"Oh, my name isn't Alexandria... It's Yuina," she returned aloud, in a plain tone to gently correct her partner. Maybe he'd just gotten her name wrong before, they hadn't really talked too much on their journey to this place, maybe he misheard?

[break][break] Quizically, the Head Ranger regarded his companion. He hadn't said anything of the sort. But maybe she was just confused because of everything that was going on — it was easy to get confused in a place like this.

[break][break] "Yuina, huh?" he asked, flashing a grin. "Great to meet you."

[break][break] With that, Ollie trotted straight into the abandoned building.

[break][break] With his sunny demeanor, it would have been easy to mistake Ollie's confidence and assurances for wisdom. But in reality, he had no idea about this place. It was half the reason the League had sent him here in the first place. As Head Ranger, it only made sense that he would be used to scope out the surrounding area.

[break][break] Can't say it didn't make him feel comfortable though.

[break][break] As he led their way through the shadowed hallways, he tried to push the feeling of apprehension that threatened to push through. "What do you think we'll find here?" he asked, trying to keep cheerful. "There must be some artifacts or something they left behind... maybe we can find out what happened here!"

[break][break] He pushed his way into a classroom, flicking on the lights. The ceiling flickered into half-way color, but eventually dawned on an empty room. The desks were pushed askew, the windows half-open. Wind whistled in ominously from outside.

[break][break] Unfinished scrawl was on the chalkboard in unfamiliar, alien lettering.

[break][break] Ollie walked across the classroom and towards what appeared to be a set of notebooks and tablets. But they were unlike anything he had ever seen before. Futuristique and alien in design, it sent another chill down his back.

Unable to really shake the feeling that something was wrong about that... What even was it? It didn't feel like a memory, but it also wasn't something she felt entirely unfamiliar with...? It was weird, she couldn't explain it, and that name... Alexandria... Did she know that person? She shook her head, trying to force the thoughts away, if she didn't it was going to tumble around in her head until she was dizzy, they had far more important things to work out here, like how they were entering into this abandoned and very eerie school building.[break]
Yuina followed Ollie closely, getting separated in a place like this was definitely not something she wanted to even manifest into the universe. They made their way into the building, through some of the darkened hallways until they moved into what was essentially, actually a classroom.[break][break]
"I... don't know, this place is so strange, like you would expect to pick up a book and it would be about regular math or something, but this," she trailed off, looking up at the board on the wall that was written on in detail in some kind of print that she could never hope to recognize...[break]
"It could be anything, concepts that we don't even know to be ideas, like," Yuina wondered, what did a school in this place have to teach?[break][break]
"Prepositions... My class' lesson," came a voice, and Yuina had to cover her mouth in an attempt not to scream as she felt the color drain from her face. She turned, finding a figure coming out of the shadows of an attached doorway, a pale, almost blue complexion and eyes that just looked empty as they regarded her and Ollie... but this being did not attack outright.[break]
"I was starting... to teach prepositions, to... my students... My... class," the figure trailed off, as if remembering something from a long, long time ago, regarding their surroundings like they were reminiscing.

[break][break] There were no buttons on the smooth, glass surface either. Nothing except some foreign lettering and a password for entry.

[break][break] Ollie placed the book back down, looking at the other items on the table. Pencils, pens, unfamiliar knicknacks... all looked familiar and yet so, so unfamiliar.

[break][break] "They're definitely not like anything I've seen before."

[break][break] An uneasy feeling settled in his chest, just like the one he'd felt when he'd seen all those art pieces in the vessel in the Ultra Deep Sea.

[break][break] 'Prepositions...'

[break][break] Ollie jerked at the sought of a voice. It was a woman. Or it looked like a woman...? Except she had a pale, blue complexion and eyes that were faraway. She stood at the corner of the shadows, her bluish skin nearly blending away. Ollie tensed, but didn't run. She didn't look threatening. Probably...?

[break][break] "Hey," Ollie said, brandishing his strongest weapon. His smile. "What's your name?"

[break][break] "We're Ollie and Yuina."

[break][break] 'I can't...' her words trailed off, lips twisting into a frown. 'I can't...'

[break][break] "You can't?" Ollie supplied helpfully.

[break][break] 'I can't find them... my students...'

[break][break] As she spoke, there was a shuffle of shadows outside the classroom. Advancing in on them.

Her pulse was racing, of all of the things that she could have expected to find or encounter in this place... She was expecting monsters really, like the kind that dwelled deep beneath the surface of the Ultra Sea, those things that didn't even have faces and attacked at anything that even dared to move. But this... This... Person? Were they, a person? They looked like a person, but not, their pale blue skin was unsettling, but they spoke, and just sounded like someone who was distressed, lost... Unable to come to terms with whatever had happened to this place...[break]
Ollie spoke first, trying to gauge the situation, offering their names, and this... Being, person, still only looked lost, they were looking for their students... How long had they been here, how long ago had this place come to ruin? Yuina wasn't sure what they could do to help, there was nothing left of this place, but that didn't mean that this person had to stay here... And they definitely shouldn't either as she felt her hair stand up on the back of her neck, she could hear something shuffling around in the hallways of the building...[break][break]
"I think we should go...," Yuina whispered to Ollie, though she looked back up to the person they'd encountered...[break]
"Uh... We can try to help you find your students... Come with us, you'll be safe," Yuina spoke aloud, slowly, not trying to make any sudden moves as she reached out a gloved hand slowly for the strange woman to take. She was just a husk of a person really, her empty gaze lowered to the outstretched hand. Yuina almost shivered, she really couldn't believe that they'd encountered a living person, and she resisted the urge to jerk her hand away as the husk of a woman made contact with her hand.[break][break]
"Okay, okay we're gonna go now, and we'll be okay," Yuina breathed through the panic of trying not to think too hard about the situation at hand. Ollie was right, it was definitely difficult to wrap one's head around...

[break][break] As pale as she looked, there was a light that entered her eyes at the sight of Yuina Higashi reaching out for her. Almost as if color flooded back into her expression, bringing her life. Was it possible that Yuina reminded her of someone?

[break][break] Ollie nodded at his friend in agreement. "Yeah, we can. We just - "

[break][break] His words are cut off, however, as the shadows advance on the classroom. Suddenly, glass splinters everywhere as the shadows explode through the windows — they aren't just shadows. They're —

[break][break] Or Megalopolans. Unfriendly ones at that. Maybe they're even her students. Either way, Ollie knows that they have to go. And fast.

[break][break] "Come on, Yuina!" he shouts, reaching for his belt. In a flash, his Iron Thorns is released. Reeses releases a ROCK TOMB to bar their entry way, but the Megapolans are vicious as they are greedy. Drool trickles down their face as they bite hungrily through the rock, clawing their way through the open gaps in an attempt to reach the two humans.

[break][break] The Teacher-Megalopolan holds Yuina's hand tenderly, and Ollie reaches to grab Yuina's other hand. He tugs her towards the classroom's other open door, sprinting immediately through the opening.

The situation escalated quickly and swiftly turned into something terrifying. No sooner had Yuina made contact, clutching the woman's hand gently in hers to assure her that they could help her, the shuffling became louder, and it wasn't just from one thing encroaching upon them, but from many... Zombies?[break]
Yuina's heart was about to explode, this was terrifying, she was panicked and had no idea that they would encounter something so gruesome on this expedition! She had so many questions, really coming down to what happened to this place that it was so desolate and brimming with something so unreal. There was no time though, no time for questions or panic as the other figures that did look a lot like the woman Yuina held onto, but they were completely devoid of any sense of self, they were mindless and bent on attacking anything in their path in an attempt to get to them as Ollie had released a Pokemon to barricade the entry way. And then it was definitely time to go.[break][break]
Clutching tightly to both Ollie and the woman that they had encountered, Yuina ran with Ollie and his Pokemon as they lead the way back through the hallways of the school, and the sounds of snarling zombies, their senseless crashing into anything that was in their way filled the space behind them.[break]
There was nothing more that they could do except keep running, turning corners in the hallways until the open doors to the outside were in their sights, and even then Yuina had no intention of stopping. They had to get out of the sight and senses of the raging zombies, and she wasn't sure how long they would follow in pursuit.[break]
"We need to get out of here, who knows if there's more," Yuina huffed between heaving breaths in their running, the disembodied cries of the zombies carrying behind them, they were pursuing still, and she had to imagine that wasn't the only group of them around...

[attr="class","mainbox"] There's only a short window of time, before they're about to get swallowed up by what is promptly becoming ollie morales's worst nightmare. He thought the Ultra Deep Sea was scary? Well, this damn building was downright terrifying.

[break][break] A sneaker crashes through a window door, paving the path away from the zombies that spill through the abandoned classroom.

[break][break] Ollie and his Iron Thorn clear the path with ROCK TOMBS aimed to either prevent the zombies from infiltrating, or to angle them away. The Head Ranger leaps; he careens into another open classroom. This one appeared to be a Gym, instead. Dark lights flicker, and Ollie shuts the door close, barricading it shut with another ROCK TOMB.

[break][break] Electricity crackles against the door as Reeses aids his trainer in holding it closed.

[break][break] The brunette glanced around, quickly looking for an exit.

[break][break] "There!"

[break][break] There's a clear exit — an open door that whistles with midnight air — but before he can sprint towards it, there is a tug on his wrist. He glances, only to find the Teacher-Megalopolan looking at him.

[berak][break] 'You go... you go. I stay.'

[break][break] Her expression is somber.

[break][break] 'I must... reunite with my students.'

[break][break] "No! Come - "

[break][break] What? Come back with us? It wasn't like they could take her through the rift.

[break][break] "There must be another way," he said, lips twitching into a frown as he glanced back at the door. Loud thumps and snarls echoed from the chamber.

[break][break] Here, in the Gym, she was safe. But for how long?

[break][break] 'I'll be safe here,' the woman said, hand curled around Yuina Higashi as well. 'I promise.'

[break][break] Hesitation bleeds into eyes of emerald green. But Ollie has no choice. He tugs Yuina towards him.

[break][break] "We'll - we'll be back for you! I promise!"
